Notes From Host Team: The water conditions at 12 Mile look good, and we’ll continue to monitor them closely in the coming days. It took a little bit longer to get this email out because we have had to make adjustments since the water level is a lot lower this year. The course will be slightly different, which you can see below. We will make sure all of the swimmers know the change during each pre-race briefing. Please review the important information below regarding Friday practice and Saturday’s events. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out!
Entering the Park / Parking
We will have lots of signs directing you from the moment you are driving up to the park. The park gates will be open for all vehicles; no special access needed. However, spectators will not be allowed to park in the spaces to the left of the gate. Swimmers may be dropped off in that area, but all spectator parking must be to the right, toward the boat ramp. We’ll have a few parents on site helping direct traffic and parking.
Friday Practice
Practice will be held at 12 Mile on Friday from 5:30–7:00 PM. All swimmers are welcome to join and familiarize themselves with the course.
- Please arrive before 5:00 PM.
- Late arrivals will not be allowed to join practice until we return to the beach.
- The gate will remain open during practice, so a code should not be necessary.
- We hope to have parent volunteers available in safety kayaks. If you have anyone interested, please send them my way.
Packet Pick-Up
Packet pick-up will be available on Saturday starting at 6:30 AM at the beach, and throughout the day.
Each packet will include:
- Bag Tag with events and bib numbers
- Swim cap (Color-coded based on age)
- 2026 DVOW Bag Tag
- Information for how each swimmer needs to draw numbers
Swimmer Check-In
Check-in will take place on the beach. Athletes must check in at least 30 minutes prior to their first race. If a swimmer is competing in multiple events, they only need to check in once. We will have different stations each swimmer will go through to check they are ready to race. 1. Fingernail check 2. Number & Device Check 3. Receive Timing Chip
To complete check-in and receive their active timing chip, swimmers must:
- Arrive to check in with their individual information bag tag
- Have fingernails and toenails trimmed (no white showing)
- Have race numbers clearly marked in thick black marker on both shoulders, biceps, and hands
- Be free of all devices, including regular and smartwatches
Coaches & Volunteer Hospitality
Hospitality will be under the pavilion again this year. Breakfast sandwiches, fruit, and juices will be provided. There will be food trucks by the pavilion for coaches, swimmers, and spectators.
Volunteer Sign-Ups
We’re a small team and truly appreciate any extra help! Please encourage parents and spectators to volunteer — especially for check-in or kayaking during races.
*Reminder: The beach and bridge are closed to spectators. Volunteering is the best way for them to see their swimmers compete!
Waves & Race Numbers
All wave and race number info will be in the swimmers packet. I will be sending out the spreadsheet from GoRace tomorrow once they get it in the correct format for you all.
Spectators
Spectators are welcome around the banks of the lake, but must avoid the bridge, beach, and finish line area. For safety reasons and to allow EMS access, no parents or spectators will be permitted on the beach or bridge unless they are volunteering.
